I Want To Know You

At birth you embraced me with open arms
I want to know you
I feel like a starving man
Why did you have to go
We could have been better friends
I despise this life of chance
My tongue can not express my sorrow
My eyes burn a hole through pictures of you
The you I didn’t know but you hide
My soul longs to connect to your soul
I feel like my heart is drowning in tears
Like a game of hide-and-seek
I am left only with memories
A longing that is my constant shadow
I am left to contemplate my unfinished life
Like the desert with no shade
And a tree with no leaves
My soul longs for the shelter of your embrace
The peaceful timbre of your voice
The calming touch of your hand
The reassuring smile on your face
Your understanding eyes
With your life in front of you
I want to know your dreams when you were a boy
With the pressure of life
I need to know all about your frustrations as a man
With death starring you in the face
I want to feel your fear and pain
As you crossed over
I long to know your thoughts
My soul aches for a time past
I am comforted only in knowing
We will embrace once again
